Science or Fiction ?
                                                       Supernatural experiences

  1. What can you see on the pictures?

N° :5 a UFO(unidentified flying object) = a flying saucer
6 : : a saucer = a little plate that you put under the cup of coffee to protect the table
N° :1 : a ghost (this one is Casper)
N° :4 : a leg with strange scars
N° :3 : a strange figure floating over a bed.
N° :2 : a woman who is lying on her bed and at the same time standing next to the bed = an Out of Body Experience = an OBE

What is common to all these pictures ?
Except for the saucer, they represent strange phenomena (singular : a phenomenon). Some people consider they are to be linked to supernatural experiences while other people say it is only science fiction.

  1. Definitions :

A scientific process = an experiment
Something that happens to someone = an experience

A vehicle that moves by flying in the sky : plane. (it takes off and leaves the ground, and when it gets its destination it lands on the ground, usually at the airport.)
A vehicle that moves by flying into space, far from the planet : a spaceship
A science fiction vehicle that moves by flying : a UFO (flying saucer)

You walk on the floor inside your house, but you walk on the ground outside.

In the morning, the sun rises in the East, then it shines all day and in the evening, it sets in the West.

A creature from another planet is called an E.T. or an alien.

  1. E.T.s’ attitudes in science fiction stories :
Sometimes E.T.s are nice, like in Steven Spielberg’s film, or in “Strange Encounters of the 3rd Kind” but sometimes they are mean.
In some films, they try to attract people from the Earth (abduct) to take them away.

Some people believe aliens exist for real.
And sometimes, the media organize polls (= surveys) to find out how many people believe in the supernatural. They ask you questions like : “Have you ever seen a ghost? Do you believe in ghosts?”
